Enhancements to Employment Insurance for family caregivers. A step in the right direction. However, the Coalition regrets the fact that there is little support for patients themselves, since no plans have been made to improve the Employment Insurance Act adopted more than 40 years ago (1971), which only grants 15 weeks of benefits to seriously ill patients. The Coalition Priorité Cancer au Québec welcomes the measure announced in the federal budget extending Employment Insurance’s Compassionate Care Benefits’ duration from six weeks to six months for people who are taking care of a severely ill family member.
